In collaboration with Kloth, a social enterprise focusing on textile recycling, MST Golf Group has recently adopted two fabric recycle bins to promote responsible retail practices and better golf product life cycle management. The recycle bins are located outside MST Golf Subang and MST Golf PJ (Federal Highway) stores, providing a convenient channel for golf consumers and the public to recycle their fabrics. The bins accept a wide range of fabrics, including golf wear and other items like shirts, pants, gloves, shoes, caps, socks, scarves, innerwear, swimwear, handbags, travel bags, purse, belts, school bags, plush toys, plastic toys, rugs, curtains, tablecloths, pillows, pillow cover, bedsheets, towels, blankets, and rags.
Donated items will be given a second life by being donated to charities and communities, upcycled into new clothing, bag, and household items, repurposed into industrial cleaning cloths, or exported to developing countries as second-hand clothing.
“We are trying to be more aware of our environmental footprint. As a golf retailer, we understand that one of the wastes we contribute down the line is the golf products we sell. Thus, adopting the fabric recycle bins is part of our effort to manage some of these wastes and promote a circular approach within our business operations,” said a spokesperson from MST Golf Group.
Fabric waste is a significant environmental issue, with textile waste taking up to 200 years to decompose. According to a report by the Malaysian Ministry of Environment and Water, Malaysia tosses 195,300 tons of fabric yearly. The textile industry is also the second most polluting industry in the world, making sustainable practices essential to reduce its impact on the environment.
